Today we read a beautiful story about Agate the Moose.
"He feels like a plain, brown rock. But is he, really? If you've ever hunted agates, you know the thrill of spotting a good one, the anticipation of polishing it to reveal its secret treasures. Agate reminds us to look for the remarkable hidden core in ourselves and others." A favorite past time of mine when I go back home is to agate hunt with my family on our farm. We spend hours out in the field looking for agates in Minnesota. This book is extremely special to me as I try to find the good in every person I meet. We are all special in our own way, and Agate teaches us this lesson.

Today the students made connections to a beautiful story called Don't Laugh at Me. Yesterday was National Bullying Prevention Day. We discussed how it feels to be bullied. I was pleasantly surprised with the responses I got after watching this video with the class. Many of us were on the verge of tears as we talked about all of us being different but special in our own way. I encourage you to watch this video with your family! Today the students go to be engineers in science class. The students were given a problem, and they needed to design something that would solve the problem for me! Here is the problem they needed to solve:
The classroom door has a window in it, but the teacher's desk is at the other end of the classroom. The teacher wants to be able to see who is at the door without getting out of her desk. Design a product that solves this problem. Once the students came up with materials they would use, they had to design the classroom to see if their product would work! |
